About

This podcast was started on July 15, 2008 as a tribute a friend who died five years ago. The first two mixes were representations of Keith Krate and his music and the work he did at KSCU Radio in Santa Clara, CA. The third of the inaugural episodes (Glitched Mix 2008 – Episode 01) is longer than the rest will be and is now intended as a statement of intent for the project.

That mix was made before I decided that it was time to step up and make the podcast i had been threatening people with so I hadn’t given much thought about the structure or organization or length of it so much as “will i still want to listen to it in a couple months or years?”. When i realized that the answer was “Yes” i started to plan the next batch.

I then dug up a few CDs i had made for friends between 1997-2000 and built the structure of future mixes off of them. At this point I had mixes from 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 so it seemed logical to continue forward and do a mix of music released in between the old and new mixes which brought about 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Once i finished those i started to think about

what came before and decided it would be fun to give a mix to the 1960s, the 1970s, and the 1980s.

Now that I’m all caught up and have the “a mix for every year” bug out of my system it’s time to get back to the fundamentals of this project: “Will I still want to listen to this in a couple months or years?” For me, the answer is still yes. I hope it is for you too.

Since the primary purpose of this podcast is to encourage people to discover new music I have linked all the songs included in these podcasts and embedded those links in both the podcast itself and on the main podcast website. Clicking on those links will bring you to the song itself on iTunes, to the song’s album on Amazon.com, to the artist’s page on MySpace.com, or to the artist website if all the previous options fail.
